Zentangle & Mini Abstracts:
Techniques for Purposeful and Fun Doodling
using Pens and Brushes
with Angela Wrahtz
"Zentangle" is a meditational art form that looks hard but is easy to pick up. You will find yourself filling several sketchbooks in a couple of weeks! By popular request, at the December 9th GPS, we will have a half hour demo that will get you started with some basic information and a fun project. This demo will repeat some info from the May demo but will have a new twist to get you into projects that stretch your abstract side to creation. Angie will have a number of interesting samples and some new tools to share
with you to spark your creativity. Focus will be on composition, artful line work and applying color.

This art form allows a person to achieve a relaxed focus while creating beautiful images using repetitive patterns. This demo will teach you how to do it....how to feel the zen of this type of doodling which draws deep on brain function and unlocks your imagination for interlocking lines and shapes while adding depth and character from watercolor. The results stand on their own or become the basis for embellishment in your larger works.
This demo is free to WOW members and $10 per guest. Bring a drawing pad and/or watercolor pad, sharpies (thick and thin), and your usual watercolor painting supplies and a friend if you like. Handouts provided. Angie will bring stencils for artists to use for the "next level" project. Books on Zentangle including "repeating pattern" suggestions can be bought at amazon.com, Blicks, or your favorite art store if you want extra resources.
Hope to see you there!

Class Descriptions

Beginning 2015 at the Keizer Art Association in Keizer, Oregon.

My hope--and my goal--is to inspire the students who sign up for my classes to understand the medium of watercolor and to have better control and confidence with it. Actually, I want students to experience the joy of it and put the frustration and/or fear behind them. I will have inspiration pieces and resources to spark people's desire and imagination. I know a lot of artists who find themselves at a place where they feel stuck or they don't know how to take their art to the next level. I believe I can help with that. I'd like to spread my love and enthusiasm for art and watercolor as a pure form and as mixed media incorporating pen and ink.

"Pepper Trio" by Angela Wrahtz

January 8, 15, 22, 29 -- WATERCOLOR PAINTING taught by ANGELA WRAHTZ, award winning artist. New class which offers instruction on beginning to advanced techniques to rapidly build your skills, control, and confidence with this exciting medium. No experience needed. You will learn various methods for sketching and transferring images to paper so focus can be on painting. This ongoing series of classes will be project-based. As you advance, bring your own project or Angie will provide ones which advance your understanding of value, color, design, etc., as you become successful with watercolor painting . Lots of demos, useful information, and individual attention. Angie will provide you with 1/4 sheet stretched 140 lb CP Arches WC paper and the use of palettes containing professional grade WC paint while in class. Supplies list for several brushes available ahead of time at. $10 materials fee. Thursdays, 1pm to 4pm. Contact Angie with your questions at angela.wrahtz@comcast.net. $80/ 4 sessions.

Other things to know:
Sign up for both classes and work on your art all day The morning session is a  perfect way to get inspired and giggle your brain. Bring a bag lunch and continue with a productive, focused work on your own projects or those provided for you.
Regarding the materials fee:

The materials fee helps to defray the cost of supplies I bring for students to use for projects. I plan to bring stretched 140 lb CP Arches watercolor paper on stiff boards (student will keep these) and enough palettes for everyone to use in class (these stay with me) so students don't have to go out and buy tubes of paint if they don't want to initially. This way the initial investment in the class by students is low and you can see if you like it. The paint trays I bring will contain professional grade paints by M. Graham which I believe are the best and give superior results. I only use M. Graham paints in my artwork. Considering that the average tube is $10 or more, this approach helps students to have a full tray of colors to work with to see what they like and what works for them. I will bring these supplies every session. I will only ask the students to buy a couple of brushes to bring to class. In the case of the PEN AND INK WITH WATERCOLOR class, I will also bring a variety of permanent pens for people to experiment with for their projects. As with most serious students, they will eventually buy all their own "stuff."
Supplies Lists:
For those people who want to purchase their own supplies to start with, see below.
